Your first poster in under 5 minutes. Install Varve, create a design, and export it.
1. Install Varve
Download the installer for your operating system. The download page auto-detects your platform and shows you the recommended package.
- Linux: AppImage (universal), .deb (Debian/Ubuntu), or .rpm (Fedora)
- macOS: .dmg for Apple Silicon (macOS 13+)
- Windows: .exe installer for Windows 10 (1809+) or 11
Or try Varve in your browser right now — no install required. The browser build is experimental but works for most tasks.
2. Launch the App
On first launch, Varve shows the home screen. Click New to create your first document.
Choose Blank Canvas, enter a name like "My First Poster", set the size to 1080 × 1920 pixels (portrait poster), and click Create.
3. Add Content
Add a background, headline, and image to your poster:
- Background: Press R for the Rectangle tool. Drag across the canvas to fill it. In the Inspector on the right, choose a fill color.
- Headline: Press T for Text. Click near the top and type your headline. Select the text, then use the Inspector to change the font, size, and weight.
- Image (optional): Drag an image file from your desktop onto the canvas. Resize and position it with the Select tool (V).
Use the Layers panel on the left to rename layers, reorder them, or adjust visibility.
4. Save Your Work
Press Ctrl+S (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+S (macOS) to save. Choose a location and file name. Your document is saved as a .varve file.
Varve files are local — no account, no cloud sync. Keep backups of anything important.
5. Export
Ready to share? Click the Export button in the top toolbar, or press Ctrl+Shift+E / Cmd+Shift+E.
Choose a format:
- PNG — Best for web, social media, or presentations
- SVG — Scalable vector for further editing or web use
- PDF — For print or archival
- WebP — Smaller file size for modern web use
Pick your size and quality, then click Export. Varve saves the file where you choose.
